Explore the story of Joseph and Rachel Moore, Black New Yorkers who made their home in Lower Manhattan’s tenements in the 1860s and 1870s. Joseph Moore moves from New Jersey to Manhattan in 1857, his wife Rachel from Kingston, New York in the same decade. They lived in a rear tenement in today’s SoHo neighborhood, in a building with both Irish and African American New Yorkers.

The Harbor House offers person centered, trauma informed evidenced based treatment for women with substance use and mental health disorders. During their stay at The Harbor House, residents participate in individual and group counseling and 12 Step programs. We offer treatment that transitions from inpatient to intensive outpatient to aftercare over a nine to twelve month period. Treatment includes family education, medication management, peer support services, assistance with transitional housing, and recovery-oriented social and recreational activities. Harbor House’s Mission is to break the cycle of domestic violence by providing safe refuge and supportive services that educate and empower those impacted by domestic violence. Harbor House will advocate social change that protects and engenders a person’s right to live a life free of abuse.

In partnership with Milwaukee Area Technical College we provide a bilingual GED program for the people living with us as well as the community at large. Harbor House can Help
We are now administering their program for single women that are in need of assistance with living quarters and rent payments. We are currently in partnership with Milwaukee County to utilize the remaining units in Harbor House Review the building in ways that will take vulnerable people and families off the street and help them stabilize. Committed to improving our neighborhood, Harbor House continues to offer programs and resources beyond providing shelter.
If you’re looking to reduce your Missouri tax liability, you should consider making a donation to Harbor House. Donations to Harbor House of $100 or more qualify for the Missouri Domestic Violence Tax Credit Program. As of July 1, 2022, the Missouri Department of Social Services offers the Missouri Domestic Violence Tax Credit to individuals, corporations, partnerships, S-Corporations, and LLC’s making donations to Harbor House as a qualified Domestic Violence Shelter.
